Jazzy arafat

Jazzy Arafat is a Norwegian rock band, formed at a one year rock'n'roll based school, called Trøndertun, just outside of Trondheim. Formed in 2006, the band consists of Martin Nygaard on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Jonas Dræge on bass, harmonica and backing vocals, Hans Skjong (aka Idol-Hans) on guitar and backing vocals, and Bjørn Sindre Barstrand on drums.

Jazzy Arafat stands out from most bands in the indie rock scene, with their ambitious attitude, refusing to be a part of an obscure scene. Their 2007 Norwegian tour was a product of the band's willpower, organizing all gigs themselves. The tour also indicated a great potencial for the band, being well appreciated by both students and experienced musicians.

Jazzy Arafat consider themselves as part of a new wave of Norwegian pop/rock bands (alongside kakkmaddafakka), showing appreciation to life itself, not having to pretend that their life is a misery, and that everyone treats them like dirt. Although the lyrics often reflects a certain frustration, the music itself shows their positive attitude towards life.

Live appearance and lyrics

Jazzy Arafat is known for their devoted stage presence, and their sing-along nature. The communication, both within the band and with the audience, is pretty unique. A highlight in their stage set is where Jonas plays the harmonica, while Hans is playing the bass around him. Martin Nygaard is known for his stories, which, for the most part, has no connection with the truth what so ever.

Jazzy Arafat's lyrics often describes frustration, concerning typical topics of their generation. All lyrics have roots in own experiences.Their most known song, "Back Off" is a wailing story in which the main character blames all his misfortune on what seems to be one person, but in fact is the sum of his past lovers. The lyrics "Hang me/him up, don't let me/him down", from the bridge, is inspired by the Rolling Stones song "Let's Spend the Night Together".The upbeat disco-influenced "Soon You'll Wanna Dance Again" is a witty statement of a sober lad, wanting to go home with a girl, who has had too much to drink. His conscience tells him to dance with her first, so she might sober up.
