Robert Wright (cricketer)

Robert Wright was a first class cricketer who played for The North of England against the South of England at Lords in 1875 and in 2 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club against Middlesex and Surrey in 1877. A right handed middle order batsman he scored 37 runs at 7.4 with a highest score of 22 on his county debut against Middlesex. He slipped down the order in the defeat against Surrey and his services were not required again. His right arm, round arm slow bowling was not called upon.

He scored 5 and 4 in the North's 10 wicket defeat against a South team which featured the great W.G. Grace.

He was born on the 19th July 1852 in Adwalton, Yorkshire and died on the 2nd January 1891 in Oldham, Lancashire at just 39 years of age. His given name was actually Robert Wright Ward.
