Serial organization

Serial organization pertains to, consists of, or occurs in a series rather than simultaneously (distinguished from parallel). The organization of a system that is structured for the transmission or processing of each part of a whole, in sequence, can be considered a serially organized system.

Serial organization in the visual system pertains to the series of signal transduction processes that must occur in order for light energy to eventually be perceived as coloured object by the cortex.

In behavior it can be thought of as a sequence of stages children often go through during development in adolescence.
