Geoffrey Adams

Sir Geoffrey Doyne Adams KCMG (born 11 June 1957 [ [http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029391638&a=KArticle&aid=1136907306476 Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Press Release - Change of Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran - January 24, 2006] ] ) is a member of the British Diplomatic Service. He has been Ambassador to Iran since April 1, 2006.

He was educated at Oxford University where he studied Islamic history and Middle Eastern politics. In 1979, he joined the British Diplomatic Service. Adams has been in diplomatic postings overseas in Saudi Arabia, France, South Africa and Egypt. Before joining Jack Straw’s Private Office, he was the British Consul General in Jerusalem, responsible for Britain’s relations with the Palestinian people.

Already a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG), Adams was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the 2008 Birthday Honours.
