Sailormongering

Sailormongering

Sailormongering is the practice of waylaying ships coming into port and luring sailors away from their posts with prostitutes.

Greenpeace charge

In 2003, the United States Justice Department invoked a law that was enacted to prevent sailormongering in 1872 to attempt to prosecute Greenpeace for boarding a ship that was importing over $10 million worth of Brazilian mahogany. The case garnered widespread ridicule and was dismissed on the second day of the trial.
