Clare Arnold

Clare Arnold was a supporting character played by Kathleen Robertson on the primetime television soap opera "Beverly Hills, 90210". Her character was part of the series in seasons 4 through 7, spanning the years 1994 to 1997.

Clare Arnold was originally a brainiac bad girl who was introduced in the middle of the fourth season. The character later changed her ways and became more down-to-Earth and likable, while still neurotic, in her later seasons on the show. The character of Clare beacame one of the most evolved characters on the show throughout her time in Beverly Hills.

Clare was introduced to the show as a senior in high school and the daughter of the chancellor at the fictitious California University, where the rest of the cast were freshmen. She was first introduced to the characters of Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley) and Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) and a retreat for California University. Much as the show's producers had David Silver taking a "double course load" in high school so he could be in the same grade as the other main characters, Clare went straight from high school senior to college sophomore status. She unsuccessfully pursued Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley) in the fourth season before dating David (Brian Austin Green) for most of the fifth season. Highlights included the couple making an X-rated tape that nearly ended up being viewed by Donna's conservative mom, tension over the clueless Chancellor thinking Clare was dating Brandon (and Clare's seeming unwillingness to say she was dating David) and a brief breakup when David revealed he still had feelings for Donna. At the start for the sixth season it is revealed that Clare broke up with David over the summer, apparently amicably. During the sixth season she started to tutor Steve Sanders (Ian Ziering) in Algebra and became romantically involved with lasted throughout the sixth and seventh seasons. Clare and Steve's relationship had a lot of turmoil during the 7th season over his immaturity and her general dismissive attitude towards him. During the show's seventh season finale, following the characters' graduation from college, Clare declined the offer to move to Paris, France, with her father. She later had a change of heart and decided to move. Steve did not want to leave Los Angeles so they broke up. The sequence where they break up has been heavily edited in syndication airings and now consists of a very short exchange between the characters, with Steve later confirming to Brandon that his and Clare's relationship is done.
