Arimneste was the daughter of Nicomachus and
Phaestis , andAristotle 's older sister. In addition to Aristotle, Arimneste had a brother namedArimnestus . Her name and that of her brother translates as "Greatly remembered".There were two famous men named "Arimnestus" after whom Arimneste may have been named. The first Arimnestus was the Spartan soldier who killed the Persian general,
Mardonius , at theBattle of Platea . The second Arimnestus was the King of theTyrrhenians , who sent a gold throne to Olympia in honor of theOlympic Games .Arimneste married
Proxenus of Atarneus , by which they had a daughter,Hero , and a son,Nicanor .Hero was
Callisthenes of Olynthus' mother. Nicanor married Aristotle's daughterPythias . According to Aristotle's will, Nicanor was to manage the family affairs until his own son, Nicomachus came of age.References
