West End Terminal was a series of
railroad terminal s located atConey Island ,Brooklyn , near what is now the northeast corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues.The first standard railroad depot on Coney Island, the original West End Terminal opened on
June 8 ,1864 , to serve the trains of the "Brooklyn, Bath & Coney Island Railroad", popularly known as the West End Line (now theBMT West End Line ).Trains of the rival
New York and Sea Beach Railway (now theBMT Sea Beach Line ) later shared the terminal, making West End Terminal aunion terminal .In 1919, a completely reconstructed "New West End Terminal" was built on an elevated structure to consolidate the terminals of all the former steam railroad lines terminating at Coney Island except the
Long Island Rail Road -controlledNew York and Manhattan Beach Railway . "West End" was gradually dropped from the terminal's name, and it is now known as Stillwell Avenue Terminal or "Coney Island Terminal". Station signage reads Stillwell Avenue–Coney Island.In 2002, portions of the terminal were closed in stages and completely reconstructed, fully reopening in 2005 with a modern train shed as a passenger facility of the
