General George Thomas Keppel, 6th Earl of Albemarle FGS, FSA (13 June 1799 – 21 February 1891) was a British soldier and politician.
Born in Marylebone, he was a younger son of the 4th Earl of Albemarle and Hon. Elizabeth Southwell. In 1851, he succeeded to his older brother's titles. Keppel was educated at Westminster School. He served in the 14th Foot and became an Officer in April 1815. Few months later, Keppel fought in the Battle of Waterloo. In 1858, he was promoted to the rank of Major-General, in 1866 to that of Lieutenant-General and in 1874 he reached eventually the rank of General.
Keppel was Member of Parliament (MP) for East Norfolk from 1832 to 1835 and for Lymington from 1847 to 1850. In 1838, he was Sheriff of County Leitrim and between 1838 and 1841 Groom-in-Waiting. From 1846 to 1847, he was Private Secretary to the Prime Minister Lord John Russell. Keppel was Equerry to Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex. He was made a Fellow of the Geological Society (FGS) and of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA). Keppel died, aged 91 in Portman Square in London and was buried in Quidenham in Norfolk. On 4 August 1831, he married Susan Trotter, daughter of Sir Coutts Trotter, 1st Baronet in Willesden in London. They had four daughters and one son :
