- Eric Roy
Eric Wilbur Roy (born
27 June 1948 in Gore) is aNew Zealand politician. He was aMember of Parliament (MP) from 1993 to 2002, and from 2005, representing the National Party. He first entered Parliament in the 1993 elections as MP for Awarua. He became alist MP in the 1996 elections when he failed to win the new seat formed when Awarua was merged with Invercargill. He unsuccessfully contested the merged seat (still known as Invercargill) in the 1999 elections, and remained a list MP. Roy served as Assistant Speaker of the House from 1998 to 2002, initially under National'sDoug Kidd and then under Labour's Jonathan Hunt.Before entering politics, Roy was a
farmer and company director. He is aJustice of the Peace .In 2005, he contested the Invercargill seat for the National Party and was re-elected to Parliament.
