Saône-et-Loire "département" in the "Bresse Bourguignonne" area of the French region ofBurgundy , 22 km (14 mi) SE ofChalon-sur-Saône and 16 km (10 mi) WNW ofLouhans , with 485 inhabitants in 2000 (365 inhabitants in 1982, 349 in 1975, 556 in 1946, 668 in 1931, 972 in 1881, 606 in 1801).The area of the commune is 15.75 sq. km. There are ruins of a medieval castle SE of the town.
The placename, formerly "Saint-Vincent-en-Braisse", Latin "Sanctus Vincentius in Brixia" derives from that of St. Vincent born in Zaragoza, martyred at Valencia in 304 during Diocletian's persecutions.
