television station inmetro Atlanta .Broadcasting on channel 40, programming consists entirely ofMTV2 , one of the few cable networks that can be seen over the air. As WIRE-LP (before theupgrade to class A), like mostover-the-air MTV2 affiliates, it was an affiliate of The Box until that network's acquisition by Viacom in 2001.It was originally assigned W13CQ on channel 13 in May 1992, but its
construction permit expired in December 1993 without being built. It came back again as W40BI on channel 40, assigned in August 1995. It went on the air the following year in September as WIRE-LP, and became WIRE-CA in September 2001.Currently at 14 kW at a location near
Georgia 400 in northeastAtlanta , it has a permit to move somewhat southeast towardDruid Hills , and increase power to 150 kW. The old antenna has a null to the west, however the newomnidirectional antenna will cover most of the coremetro area . It is unknown whether the programming will change.External links
