- Robert John Russell
Robert John Russell is Founder and Director of the
Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences (CTNS) and the Ian G. Barbour Professor of Theology and Science in Residence at theGraduate Theological Union . He is a leading researcher and spokesperson for the growing international body of theologians and scientists committed to a positive dialogue and creative mutual interaction between these fields. He is the author of "Cosmology, Evolution, and Resurrection Hope: Theology and Science in Creative Mutual Interaction" (Pandora Press, 2006). He has also co-edited a five volume CTNS/Vatican Observatory series on science and divine action. He recently co-edited "Resurrection: Theological and Scientific Assessments" ( Eerdmans, 2002) and edited "Fifty Years in Science and Religion: Ian G. Barbour and His Legacy" (Ashgate, 2004). Russell is co-editor of the journal "Theology and Science " and Principal Investigator of "STARS: Science and Transcendence Advanced Research Series". He also edited the five volume series "Scientific Perspectives on Divine Action " (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2002).Russell is an ordained minister in the
United Church of Christ . He received aPh.D. in physics from theUniversity of California, Santa Cruz , aB.S. in physics fromStanford University , anM.S. in physics fromUCLA , and an M.A. in Theology and an M. Div. fromPacific School of Religion . Russell taught physics atCarleton College and science and religion withIan Barbour for several years before coming to the GTU in 1981. His spouse, Charlotte, is an associate minister at First Congregational Church,Berkeley, California .External links
