Change of era

*; 1452: The era name was changed to mark an event or a number of events. The previous era ended and a new once commenced in "Hōtoku" 4.

Events of the "Kyōtoku" era

* "Kyōtoku 2", in the 6th month (1453): The name of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshinari was changed to Ashikaga Yoshimasa. [Titsingh, p. 346.]
* "Kyōtoku 3" (1454): Ashikaga Shigeuji arranged for the murder of the Kantō "kanrei", Uesugi Noritada, thus beginning a series of conflicts for control of the "Kantō" which would come to be known as the "Kyōtoku no Ran".
