Career
Colin's career mirrors the recent history of Cork City F.C., being the club's longest serving player entering his 14th season with the club. O'Brien has borne witness to several turbulent and successful chapters of City's history, making his debut as a full back in November 1995 during a tumultuous period for the club.
In the intervening years Colin has survived the club's receivership and near implosion, the heady return to Turner's Cross, ever-improving European campaigns, played under a succession of managers, overcome a career-threatening injury and worked as City's commercial manager at just 23. He is now among the most experienced players in the league with over 200 league appearances to his name. Colin, who also ranks highly in the club's all-time top scorers list with 26 goals, is also the FAI's Development Officer for the Cork region, a full-time position that is balanced with his training for his only senior club.
Ater 15 years at senior level, O'Brien's retirement from football was announced by Cork City on January 23, 2009.[1]
