Vincent D. Fort (
April 28 1956 –) was first elected to theGeorgia State Senate from the 39th District in 1996. He represents part of Fulton County.He serves on the Judiciary, Education, State Properties and Institutions, Appropriations, and Reapportionment Committees. His district includes part of Atlanta and East Point.
As part of his ongoing commitment to working families, Senator Fort was the first author of Georgia's
predatory lending law, which, until recently, was the strongest law in the country. He has been on the forefront for providing a safer Georgia, sponsoring and co-sponsoring bills againstprostitution ,hate crime s, drug-related nuisances, discrimination against citizens with disabilities,racial profiling , disabled access to housing, andcollective bargaining for law enforcement officers.Senator Fort received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in American History at
Central Connecticut State College and his Masters Degree in African-American History fromAtlanta University .Senator Fort's unwavering commitment to making Georgia a better place to live has been recognized by several organizations such as theNational Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Georgia Council on Aging, The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust, The American Association of Retired Person (AARP), The National Association of Consumer Advocates, and theAnti-Defamation League .Senator Fort has three children.
