Uddhav Bhandari

Uddhav Bhandari

Uddhav Bhandari (died 19 March 2007) was a Nepali asylum seeker who died after setting fire to himself at the Eagle Building in Glasgow on March 7th, prior to his immigration hearing.

A former police officer, he was afraid of being deported to Nepal after exposing corruption within the police.

For the last six years he lived in Edinburgh and volunteered for The Bike Station and The Peace and Justice Centre. His friends are now running a campaign to get the body home to Nepal, where his wife and kids still live. The costs are estimated to be about £4000, which the Home Office refuses to pay.

The Times of India questioned Bhandari's claims and accused him of blackmail. [ [http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/NEWS/World/Rest_of_World/UK_suicide_ends_Nepal_sleaze_saga/articleshow/1790562.cms UK suicide ends Nepal sleaze saga] ]
