Paul Byers Trevithick (born
August 7 ,1959 , inWinston-Salem, North Carolina ) is an Americaninventor ,engineer andentrepreneur .Trevithick is a co-founder, with John Clippinger, of Parity Communications and has been its
CEO /CTO since2003 . He initiated and is the technical leader of the work that is now theEclipse Foundation 'sHiggins project . Supporting this effort, he also co-founded SocialPhysics.org, IdentityGang.org and IdentitySchemas.org.Since 2003, Trevithick's work has focused on creating
open source identity infrastructure that give people more control, convenience, andprivacy with respect to their digital identities and social networks on theinternet . Building onMicrosoft 's CardSpaceInformation Card metaphor, Trevithick has put forward the concept of protocol- and platform-independenti-card s as the common user metaphor for identity interactions. He has also recently been developing the notion of the "projection" and synchronization of a person's identity on the web in contrast to traditional notions of authentication.Before Parity, Trevithick was president of
Bitstream . He was CEO and co-founder in 1985 of Archetype, Inc. In1981 , he co-founded Lightspeed Computers with Nathan Felde. Trevithick has participated W3C, PODI, OASIS, and ITU-T standards efforts.clarifyme He was granted the Seybold Industry Vision award in 1999.
