Supro

Supro

Supro was one of the numerous brand names of the Valco company from the 1950s through 1968. The Supro brand was used primarily on Hawaiian lap steel guitars, electric guitars, and amplifiers. Some notable celebrities that have used Supro equipment include the following:

* Link Wray used a Supro Dual Tone.

* Former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page is said to have used either a Supro Thunderbolt model or Dual-Tone 1624T model amplifier for recording the guitar tracks on the first Led Zeppelin album.

* Jimi Hendrix' first guitar was a Supro Ozark model, and is said to have occasionally used a Supro Thunderbolt model amplifier for recording.

* Former Stray Cats guitarist Brian Setzer has performed with a Supro Thunderbolt amplifier.

* In 2003 and 2004, David Bowie played a Supro Dual Tone fitted with a Bigsby vibrato on his A Reality Tour. The same guitar appears on the cover of the "New Killer Star" single.
