Tadhg originally received a soccer scholarship off
University College Dublin A.F.C. UCD , where he played the beginning of his senior career. He played on several occasions for UCD in theEircom League 2004 season. However, he andPete Mahon , the UCD manager did not see eye to eye. Purcell then moved toKilkenny City under the astute management ofPat Scully for the 2005 season. He spent a season there with Pat but then moved toShamrock Rovers for the 2006 season along with his fellow manager Scully after Kilkenny failed to get promoted from the First Division.He made his Rovers debut in the opening game of the 2006 season [http://www.shamrockrovers.ie/reports/2006_03_10_vDundalk.php] . Tadhg is currently receiving considerable success at Shamrock Rovers, as he helped them gain promotion by winning the First Division in the 2006 season and is now playing regularly for the side in the top flight of Irish soccer, the Eircom League.
