"Street Fighter Collection" is a vgy|1997 fighting game compilation released for the PlayStation and Saturn. It collects the original "Super Street Fighter II" and its follow-up "Super Street Fighter II Turbo", along with an enhanced version of "Street Fighter Alpha 2" titled "Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold" exclusive to this compilation.

It was followed by a second compilation in vgy|1998 titled "Street Fighter Collection 2", also released for the PlayStation and Saturn. This volume features the original "Street Fighter II", along with ' and ', essentially releasing the entire "Street Fighter II" sub-series for the PlayStation and Saturn.

"Street Fighter Collection"

This compilation contains "Super Street Fighter II" and "Super Street Fighter II Turbo" (known in Japan as "Super Street Fighter II X") in the first disc, with "Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold" ("Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash" in Japan) in the second disc.

The "Super Street Fighter II" games are ported from their original CPS II arcade versions. After selecting either game from the "Street Fighter Collection" title screen on the first disc, the player are taken to view the attract mode from the game they've selected. Both games feature the standard "Arcade", "Versus" and "Option" modes. In "Super Turbo", the "Super Street Fighter II" versions of the returning characters, as well as a hidden character Akuma, are playable through easier means in addition to the ones provided in the original arcade version.

"Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold", the game on the second disc is based on "Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha", an enhanced arcade version of the original "Street Fighter Alpha 2" released in Japan, Asia and South America. All the game modes and features in the previous PlayStation and Saturn versions of the original "Alpha 2" are featured, with the exception of the exclusive "Gallery" mode in the Saturn version of "Alpha 2". Evil Ryu, who was selectable in the Saturn version of the original "Alpha 2" but not in the PlayStation, is featured in both versions of the game, along with "Champion Edition"-style renditions of all the "Street Fighter II" characters featured in the game. Exclusive to this version of the game is the debut of "Super Street Fighter II" character Cammy in the "Alpha" series, who is selectable as a hidden character in the game's "Versus" and "Training" modes. The version of the Cammy is the same one previously featured in "X-Men vs. Street Fighter", which depicts Cammy as a Shadaloo agent working for M. Bison before joining Delta Red.

"Street Fighter Collection 2"

The second compilation was originally released in Japan as the fifth volume of the "Capcom Generation", a series of compilations containing. In North America, only the "Street Fighter" compilation was released, whereas in the PAL region "Street Fighter Collection 2" was released separately from the first four volumes (which were released together as a bundle). Like the first compilation, it was released for the PlayStation and Saturn, although the Saturn version was only released in Japan due to the discontinued support for the console outside Japan.

This compilation contains a "Title Menu" where the player can choose from any of three "Street Fighter II" games featured in the compilation: the original "Street Fighter II", "Champion Edition" ("Street Fighter II Dash" in Japan) and "Hyper Fighting" ("Street Fighter II Dash Turbo" in Japan). A "Collection" mode is also featured where the player can view strategies, character profiles and artwork specific to each game, some which become available after meeting certain requirements.

Each game features an "Arcade", "Versus" and "Training" mode. After completing the single-player mode of each game at least once, a "Super Vs. Mode" becomes available at the main menu. The Super Vs. Mode allows two players to compete against each other by selecting between characters from any three versions of "Street Fighter II" in the compilation (Capcom would employ the same concept for "Hyper Street Fighter II". Each game features a choice between the original CPS soundtracks and an exclusive arranged version.

The PlayStation versions of the three "Street Fighter II" games included in this compilation were featured in the first volume of "Capcom Classics Collection" for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, with some of the same features and game modes retained (including loading times).

Reception

The games as they appear in these collections are nearly arcade-perfect, a significant advantage over their 16-bit counterparts. The first compilation was criticized by Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot for not containing the earliest games of the series, [ [http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/streetfightercollection/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review Street Fighter Collection for PlayStation Review - PlayStation Street Fighter Collection Review ] ] which was later addressed by the second compilation.
