Washington Boro (pop. roughly 600) is a small community in Manor Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna River. The zip code here is 17582. It is served by the Penn Manor School District and is the terminus of both Pennsylvania Route 441 and Pennsylvania Route 999.
History
Also called Washington Borough or Washingtonboro in the past, this small community was settled in 1810 and incorporated in 1827 and was center of river trade and a river jobs but due to their decline Washington Boro was dissolved politically in August 1973, becoming part of Manor Township.
Economy
Today Washington Boro is most famous for its tomatoes grown by its farmers.
Attractions
The village contains a number of old hotels used to attract travellers, which are now private homes. A volunteer fire department, Washington Boro Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, was organized in March of 1917 and chartered September 8, 1918. The former Patriotic Sons of America Lodge now serves as a community hall.
