Erle Wiltshire

Erle Wiltshire

Erle Wiltshire (born January 18, 1973) is a former flyweight boxer from Australia, who was born in Burma. He represented his second country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. There he was eliminated in the first round by France's Jérôme Thomas.

Wiltshire won the Australian championship in his division in 1998 and 1999, when he also claimed a gold medal at the International Invitational tournament in Sydney in December. Wiltshire came to Australia as a 16-year-old and said after his victory at the Oceania Championships that he considers himself the first Burmese to have represented Australia at the Olympics.

Wiltshire has been a part of the Australian Institute of Sport's boxing program on and off for two years and is also a scholarship holder at the Western Australian Institute of Sport.

His victory in the 51kg division at the Oceania Championships in May 2000 won Wiltshire his place on the Olympic team. His father was a major in the army in Burma and as a result he grew up in an army barracks.
