Bill Gates' flower fly ("Eristalis gatesi") is a flower fly found only in Costa Rican high montane cloud forests and named after Bill Gates. [cite web |url=http://www.sel.barc.usda.gov/Diptera/syrphid/gates.htm |title=Bill Gates' Flower Fly |accessdate=2008-05-24] Another fly found in similar habitats was named after Gates' associate Paul Allen, called Paul Allen's flower fly ("Eristalis alleni"); according to the US Department of Agriculture's Systematic Entomology Laboratory, both names were in "recognition of [their] great contributions to the science of Dipterology".
