"Idealog" is a New Zealand business magazine dealing with the creative economy, founded in 2005 by Martin Bell, Vincent Heeringa and David MacGregor. It is published by AUT Media in Auckland, New Zealand.

Of the founding trio Bell and Heeringa had worked previously on Unlimited Magazine, a publication launched in the era of the 'New Economy' and modeled on publications such as Fast Company and Business 2.0, published in the United States. Bell and Heeringa were highly regarded in publishing circles. MacGregor's background stemmed from advertising and marketing. He brought a new perspective to the group resulting in the development of an innovative launch strategy which relied on the participation of sponsors to underwrite the first year, rather than the conventional advertising sales model alone. In its first year Idealog was sponsored by Microsoft, NZ Telecom, Auckland University of Technology, Balwins (an Intellectual Property Law firm) and Image Centre (who printed the magazine). In a fickle and competitive advertising market the strategy was successful and permitted HB media to invest in both editorial and advertising sales personnel.

"Idealog" has enjoyed rapid growth since its inception. By June 2006, independently audited figures show the magazine to have newsstand sales of 12,221 copies. [http://magazine.abc.org.nz/audit.html?&type=2&titleid=1342&publisher=440&frequency=8&sort=t.name&display=history] Considering New Zealand's small population, this figure is very respectable and places the magazine among the highest circulating in its sector.

In 2006 "Idealog" won the New Zealand Magazine Publishers Association award for Launch of the Year and Business Publication of the Year. In 2007 it also took awards for Business Publication of the Year and a number of craft award at the MPA awards.

The founders planned "Idealog" as a media brand from its inception, rather than simply a magazine title. "Idealog" has hosted many community events, inviting figures from the creative economy to speak with other participants. It recently launched "IdealogTV", in keeping with the growing international trend by publishers drives to cross media boundaries and connect with users.

The magazine has a supporting website at [http://www.idealog.co.nz www.idealog.co.nz] , and sponsored the New Zealand version of "Dragons' Den" in 2006.
