- Gobabeb
Gobabeb is a desert research station in the
Namib Desert inNamibia . The station is approximately 53 miles (85 km) SE ofWalvis Bay and 145 miles (232 km) SW ofWindhoek . It is located at the northern bank of theKuiseb River , an ephemeral River which runs through theNamib-Naukluft National Park to Walvis Bay.History
Gobabeb was founded in 1962 as Namib Desert Research Station. Dr. Koch became its first director. In 1965 the DERU (Desert Ecological Research Unit) was founded as a result of a partnership with the South African
CSIR . In 1967 Dr. Mary Seely started as a researcher at the station. After Dr. Koch died in 1970 Dr. Seely became director of the station.External links
