Ahmad Shahrul Azhar Sofian (born on October 24, 1974) is a Malaysian footballer currently playing for Perak. He plays primarily as a central midfielder. He currently wears the number 7 shirt is Perak's captain.

Career

Ahmad Shahrul is the longest-serving player currently on Perak's books. He made his debut in 1996 and has been with Perak FA ever since except in 1998 and 1999, where he joined Negeri Sembilan FA. He is a highly-influential player for Perak, but is perhaps more known for his fiery temperament than his footballing abilities. He was once banned 12 months for his antics against the fourth official after receiving a red card against Selangor MPPJ.

He was also sent off in the 2007 Malaysia Cup final for a second-bookable offense. Perak went on to lose that match 3-0.

Awards

Ahmad Shahrul Azhar Sofian was honoured by the Perak state in 2005 along with his teammates Chan Wing Hoong, K. Nanthakumar, Hamsani Ahmad and Syamsul Saad for their contributions to state football.

Interesting fact

When Manchester United had a tour in Malaysia, Ahmad Shahrul was seen to raise his arms in celebration after swapping shirt with the opposite number 7, David Beckham.
