Nancy Butts (born 1955) is an American
author andjournalist .Butts was born in
Ohio and grew up with three sisters inTexas ,Michigan ,Pennsylvania ,Colorado , andVirginia . Butts graduated magna cum laude fromDuke University with a degree in religion and trained as a physician's assistant before settling in Georgia and becoming a journalist. She worked as a staff writer and news editor for eleven years, won three awards from the Georgia Press Association and was recognized by the Georgia School Board Association for her coverage of education issues.Butts's first novel, "Cheshire Moon", was published by Front Street in 1996. Her characterization of Miranda, the novel's hearing-impaired protagonist, was aided by several years of volunteer work with hearing-impaired children and a familiarity with sign language. Her second novel, "The Door in the Lake" was published in 1997, and she is currently working on her third.
Butts lives in Barnesville, Georgia with her husband and son.
