Judith Tizard

Judith Tizard (Born 3 January 1956) is a New Zealand politician. She is a member of the Labour Party.

Early life

Judith Tizard was born in Auckland in 1956. Judith Tizard was born to a political family - her mother, Catherine Tizard, served as Mayor of Auckland and as Governor-General, and her father, Bob Tizard, was a prominent Labour Party cabinet minister and Deputy Prime Minister. Before succeeding her father as the Member of Parliament for Panmure in 1990, Judith Tizard worked in the Labour Party Research Unit (1976-1977), was a Member of the Auckland Electric Power Board (1977-1983), a Restaurant Owner and Manager, O'Connells Restaurant, Auckland (1978-1982), was involved in the catering industry (1981-1984), and was a Member of the Auckland Regional Council (1988-1991). She has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History from the University of Auckland.

Member of Parliament

Judith Tizard entered Parliament at the 1990 elections as MP for Panmure, and has been MP for Auckland Central since the 1996 elections, defeating Sandra Lee-Vercoe. Judith Tizard is a Minister outside of Cabinet, serving as Minister of Consumer Affairs, Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Associate Minister of Transport, and Associate Minister of Commerce. She is also the Minister responsible for Archives New Zealand and the National Library.
