Glasgow Cross

Glasgow Cross

Glasgow Cross is a junction in Glasgow between the High Street, Gallowgate, London Road, the Saltmarket and the Trongate (running clockwise from north).

There is a monument to St. John Ogilvie which has, at its centre, four streets running from it. Other notable buildings include the [http://www.scotland-guide.co.uk/ALL_AREAS_IN_SCOTLAND/Glasgow/Areas/Centre/Mercat_Cross.htm Mercat Cross] and the [http://www.scotland-guide.co.uk/ALL_AREAS_IN_SCOTLAND/Glasgow/Areas/Centre/Tolbooth_Steeple.htm Tolbooth Steeple] . It was in the latter that hangings used to occur. ["Billy Connolly's World Tour of Scotland" (1994)] Along with the nearby Tron Theatre, it is one of the few remaining medieval buildings in the city.

The presently disused Glasgow Cross railway station sits beneath the junction.
