railway bridge located at Skansen inTrondheim ,Norway besideSkansen Station . The bridge was opened onMarch 22 1918 allowing trains onDovrebanen access toTrondheim Central Station while also being able to open to allowship s on theTrondheim Canal access to theTrondheimsfjord . It was built at the same timeDovrebanen was rebuilt from narrow gauge (1067 mm) tostandard gauge (1435 mm) and the stretch betweenMarienborg and Trondheim Central Station wasdouble track ed.The bridge was designed by
Joseph Strauss , who among other things also constructed theGolden Gate Bridge inSan Francisco , USA. In 2006 the bridge was conserved by theNorwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage , since Skansen Bridge is unique in Norway and only one of a few of its kind left in the world. The conservation includes the entire bridge including construction and technical equipment, the guard cabin and the transformer building. The conservation does not include therailway track , signal equipment or theoverhead wire s.External links
