Ludovico Lana (c. 1597-1646) was an Italian painter of the
Baroque period, mainly active inModena , where he died in 1646. He is also known as "Lodovico Lana". He was the director of the Accademia Ducale of Modena. He is said to have been born inCodigoro to a Ferrarese merchant, whose family was originally fromBrescia . He appears to have trained withScarsellino in Ferrara. He then spent some time inBologna , where he may have worked under or learned the style of either Reni orGuercino .He helped decorate the ducal palace in
Sassuolo . One of his masterpieces is thegonfalone or banner celebrating the end of the plague of 1630, which shows the town of Modena in low aerial view below the Madonna della Ghiara.References
