eponym=Hero of Alexandria Heron is a small lunar
impact crater that lies on the far side of theMoon , less than 20kilometer s from theequator . It lies between the slightly larger Ctesibius crater just to the west and the Soddy crater a little further to the east. Almost directly to the north is the prominent King crater. This formation is an undistinguished, circular crater. The interior floor is relatively flat and featureless. There is a tiny craterlet along the eastern rim that has a slightly higher
albedo than the remainder of the crater. This crater is also called "Hero" in some references. Its name comes from Heron (or Hero) of Alexandria.

By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Heron crater.
