Scott Scanlon

Scott Scanlon was a character in the popular FOX TV series "Beverly Hills 90210". He was portrayed by actor Douglas Emerson.

The series began with David Silver (played by Brian Austin Green) fulfilling the role of the unpopular nerd, his only friend being Scott. During the first season of the show, many episodes dealt with David and Scott's attempts to become friends with the more popular characters. David eventually did become friends with the "gang," largely leaving Scott behind in the second season, when the character was reduced to recurring. Midway through the second season, Scott accidentally kills himself at his surprise birthday party when he tries to impress David by showing off his father's gun, spinning the gun on one finger. The gun goes off and Scott is shot in the gut, making him bleed on his mom's Persian rug, killing him. HIs last words were "check this out!" David had tried to get him to put it away, but Scott was too enthralled with what he had found in the drawer, his father's small black handgun, when looking for candle lighting materials.

Scott had a younger sister named Sue who, like the rest of her family, was greatly distressed by Scott's death. She accused Gil Meyers, a popular AP English and journalism teacher at West Beverly High, of sexual assault, but he was eventually exonerated when she admitted that she lied about the encounter. She revealed to Donna Martin that both she and Scott were molested by an uncle and that now a younger sister was also a victim. It was also suggested that Scott's death was actually a suicide, not an accident, based largley on David ranting about how unpopular and clueless Scott has become and turning around to see Scott had heard every word. However, this is not apparent in the scene, and none of Scott's surrounding actions indicate he was trying to kill himself.
