The GLBT Pride Centre of Edmonton is an incorporated non-profit organization which works towards providing a community centre and social services for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-spirit, Queer and Questioning community in Edmonton, Alberta.

History

Until the Spring of 2004 the Pride Centre existed as the Gay and Lesbian Community Centre of Edmonton (known by its initials 'GLCCE' - pronounced as "GLI-KEY"), however in 2004 the board of GLCCE opted to cease operations and transfer all their assets to a new organisation to be known as the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Pride Centre of Edmonton (or simply Pride Centre).

The following year, in the spring of 2005, the Pride Centre moved to a new, larger centre in the Grandin/Government Centre area of downtown Edmonton, where they remained for shortly over a year.

In the summer of 2006, due to reasons beyond the control of the centre, they were again forced to move. This caused a great deal of controversy as a vocal minority of individuals wanted to see the centre stay within the more affluent areas of the downtown core, however the location that was chosen was in the Norwood area in the southern section of the Alberta Avenue Community League. In the two years since this move, all controversy has essentially evaporated.

Programs

The Pride Centre currently offers programs aimed at the diverse groups which make up the LGBT community, including youth, seniors, adult men and women and trans individuals. For a complete list of services please consult the Pride Centre's website [http://www.pridecentreofedmonton.org] .

Staffing & Volunteers

As of 2008, the Pride Centre employs 2 full time staff members. The remainder of positions at the centre are filled by volunteers.
