South Granville Rise

Established in 1907, South Granville or Uptown is an upscale Business Improvement Area (BIA) south of Vancouver's downtown core and bordered by the neighbourhoods of Kitsilano, Fairview and Shaughnessy.

Separated from downtown by False Creek, the area runs along Granville St. from Granville Island up to 16th Ave, where the shops are replaced by the residences of Shaughnessy. "South Granville" [ [http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=granville+street+vancouver&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=49.234189,-123.141975&spn=0.057166,0.160675&om=1 Google Maps ] ] celebrated their Centennial in 2007 with a celebration of the community and merchants.

As well as being a fast-growing neighbourhood of residences, shops and restaurants, South Granville is also contains a strip, between Broadway and the foot of the Granville Bridge known as "Gallery Row" which is home to a number of art galleries.

It is also home to the historic Stanley Theatre, built in 1930. In front of the Stanley you will now find the South Granville Centennial Time Capsule.
