- Carbon Balance and Management (journal)
"Carbon Balance and Management" is an independent
scientific journal published byBioMed Central on behalf of an informal group ofscientists . Thejournal ispeer-reviewed , is published online, and provides open-access to the research results aimed at developing a comprehensive, policy-relevant understanding of the global carbon cycle. [ The Anthropocene, global change and sleeping giants: where on Earth are we going? doi:10.1186/1750-0680-1-3 ]Advancement in the union of the two issues indicted by the journal's title will be a very important element of future global economic and societal development. [ Welcome to "Carbon Balance and Management". http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1750-0680-1-1 ] The journal's open access policy [ The purpose of peer review in the case of an open-access publication. http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1750-0680-1-10 ] combined with its fast publishing system facilitates the rapid communication that is needed to address these issues: the period from submission till publication is kept to be shorter than two months in average.
Scope
The global carbon cycle involves important couplings between climate, atmospheric CO2 and the terrestrial and oceanic biospheres. The current transformation of the carbon cycle due to changes in climate and atmospheric composition is widely recognized as potentially dangerous for the biosphere and for the well-being of humankind, and therefore monitoring, understanding and predicting the evolution of the carbon cycle in the context of the whole biosphere (both terrestrial and marine) is a challenge to the scientific community. This demands interdisciplinary research and new approaches for studying geographical and temporal distributions of carbon pools and fluxes, control and feedback mechanisms of the carbon-climate system, points of intervention and windows of opportunity for managing the carbon-climate-human system.
