Carl Greenberg

Carl Greenberg

Carl Greenberg (August 19, 1908 in BostonNovember 4, 1984 in Los Angeles) was an American newspaper reporter who worked his way from paper-boy to police reporter to senior reporter covering California and U.S. national politics. His parents were Yiddish- and Russian-speaking Jewish immigrants of modest means from Novogradvolynsk, today in Ukraine, who had emigrated in the 1890s. The family moved in the 1910s from Boston to Venice, California. Greenberg covered crime, labor and politics for the Hearst paper the Los Angeles Examiner for 29 years, until the paper closed in 1962; afterwards he worked for The Los Angeles Times. He retired from his newspaper career leaving his final post as Political Editor of the Times in 1973. ["State Leaders Honor Retiring Times Writer", Los Angeles Times August 15, 1973, sec. II, p. 2.]
