nihongo|Senri Chitose|千歳千里|Chitose Senri is a fictional character in the anime and manga "The Prince of Tennis". He attends Shitenhōji Middle School.

History

Chitose and his sister Miyuki were born in the Kyūshū region of Japan. He and his best friend, Kippei Tachibana, played on the Shishigaku middle school tennis team during their first and second years.

Along with Tachibana, Chitose became so good that he was named one of the 'Wings of Kyuushu' and went to nationals one year, where they made it to the semis and lost to Makinofuji Gakuen. However, after nationals during an intra-school ranking match, Chitose was competing against Tachibana when Tachibana decided to use his new shot Wild Ball. The shot hit Chitose in the eye and hospitalized him. In penitance, Tachibana quit the tennis team and shaved off his hair; shortly after that, his family went to Tokyo.

After a while, Chitose transferred to Shitenhouji and began playing tennis again, although to a lesser degree of skill than before. He himself admits that the left side of him still has a lot of blind spots due to the injury to his eye.

Notable Matches

Kippei Tachibana

During the quarterfinals of nationals, Chitose matches up again with his old friend and rival. This time, Tachibana refrains from hitting balls to Chitose's left side, which is his blind spot. However, it is noted that Tachibana once again activates his Wild Beast Aura. Chitose has difficulty countering this until he finally activates Muga no Kyouchi and opens the second door, Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami, the Pinnacle of Great Wisdom. On matchpoint, Tachibana is able to finally break through the Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami with his Wild Ball, although at the last moment Chitose realizes that Tachibana has never aimed for his left side and is able to return the ball. The match ends with Chitose winning 7-5. After the match, Chitose quits the team (although his manager throws away the paper and makes Chitose play in the semis).

Kunimitsu Tezuka

During the Doubles 1 match at Nationals, Chitose is forced to play against the Tezuka-Inui Pair. However, Inui recognizes that he has no chance in this match, and Chitose's partner, Zaizen, realizes the same. Inui and Zaizen withdraw, turning it into a singles match. As opposed to the match against Tachibana, where all the rallies are 5-8 balls long, the match with Tezuka begins with a 42-ball rally, pitting Tezuka's Hyaku Ren Jitoku no Kiwami against Chitose's Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami. At first, Chitose completely dominates the match, winning 4 points in a row. However, Tezuka manages to win a point off Chitose, at which point Chitose remarks, "That's impossible...Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami has no weaknesses," to which Tezuka replies, "That's right," and reveals that he has also opened the second door. The match ends with Tezuka winning the match 6-1. Afterwards, Chitose remarks that Tezuka is the closest one to achieving the final door.

Techniques

Muga no Kyouchi ((無我の境地) State of Self Actualization)

The Muga no Kyouchi is a state in which the user naturally intakes all techniques that he sees and is able to copy them perfectly. It is not known when Chitose first activates it, but upon doing so, he begins to study it at a local university and comes upon the three doors.

aiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami (Pinnacle of Great Wisdom)

The Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami is the 2nd of the Three Doors of the Muga no Kyouchi. Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami focuses the power of Muga no Kyouchi in the mind. It allows the person using it to be able to tell how many shots the current rally will take and who will win the point, giving them a form of foresight.

Chitose reveals this shot for the first time in his match against Tachibana. He claims that it requires tremendous effort to step through, but that if it's Tachibana, then he will do it. He also activates it in the semifinal match against Tezuka.

Kamikakushi

One of Chitose's own techniques. The ball is hit with a massive amount of topspin so that it hops up a lot more than normal after hitting the ground, giving it the impression that it 'disappears', hence the name 'Divine Disappearance'. Similar to Fuji's disappearing serve with topspin rather than sidespin.

Tightrope Walking

The genius volley technique used by Marui Bunta of Rikkaidai. The ball will hit the net and slide along the net chord, making it very difficult to return. Chitose copies this in the State of Self Actualization.
