river in the northeastern German states ofBrandenburg , where it is known as the "Ucker", andMecklenburg-Vorpommern . Its source is in the Uckermark district, near the villageTemmen . It flows north through a series of small lakes, and through the townsPrenzlau ,Pasewalk ,Torgelow ,Eggesin andUeckermünde . Near Ueckermünde, the Uecker flows into theSzczecin Lagoon , which is connected with theBaltic Sea through the three straitsPeenestrom ,Świna andDziwna .The Uecker is named after the Polabian word "vikru"/"vikrus", meaning "fast" or "quick".
