Biography
Esther Holbeck, who was of Swedish-Norwegian descent, was born in Two Harbors, Minnesota, and at 20 married Frank Rose, an amateur photographer and a sports writer at the
Two Harbors, Minnesota , newspaper. Shortly after marrying, they settled inSan Diego , California, where they established the city's first Karmel Korn Shop in downtown San Diego, at 7th and B Streets where theSan Diego Symphony is housed today in the renovated building.Each year Mrs. Rose entered her paintings in the
San Diego County Fair , held at theDel Mar Fairgrounds , where she was awarded first-, second- and third-place ribbons. After the Roses retired, they moved toCarmel, California , where Rose continued studying art and received awards in the Monterey and Carmel Valley county fairs. Rose, who began painting at age 45 after studying under water color instructor J.
