Frederick Broome

Sir Frederick Napier Broome KCMG (1842–1896) was Governor of Western Australia from 1883 to 1889.

He was born in Canada, but was living in England in 1865, when he married Mary Anne Barker. The couple then moved to New Zealand. Before being appointed to Governor of Western Australia, he had served as colonial secretary in Natal and Mauritius, including Lieutenant-Governor of Mauritius.

After serving as Governor of Western Australia, he served as acting Governor of Barbados in the West Indies and then Governor of Trinidad. He died in London in 1896.

The Western Australian towns of Broome and Broomehill are named after him.
