While Copeland's football skills often made him look like a man playing among boys, his true passion and abilities were in track and field. His intimidating height and domination on the track were almost fictional. With his blazing speed and tremendous leaping ability, Copeland seldom, if ever suffered defeat on the track.
Copeland's potential as an athlete were shown at Carver Junior High School. As a seventh grader, Copeland often dunked a basketball with ease. He would, as an eight grader, start at wide receiver, and completely dominate all other defenses.
Copeland's NFL career was preceded by a stellar collegiate career at The University of Miami, Florida, (The "U"). While at The U, Copeland's speed became well known on the last play before the half against Alabama in 1988, Copeland ran a simple 5 yard route, which, combined with his spped and agility resulted in a 73 yard touchdown that electrified the crowd and commentators alike.
Copeland's career was cut short by a knee injury. He currently resides in Tampa, Florida.
