The current headmaster is Thomas Packer, with his predecessor being Hilary French who has subsequently moved on to
Central Newcastle High School in Jesmond,Newcastle Upon Tyne .History
In September 1948 TPHS moved to its current site; 2008 is being celebrated as the diamond anniversary of the school. The school was previously known as the Cleveland School, but the history goes back further to the Queen Victoria High School founded in
Stockton-on-Tees in the nineteenth century. In 1970 the Queen Victoria High School merged with the Cleveland School, and the name was changed to Teesside High School. The Cleveland School was originally founded in 1938 and began in the outbuildings of a former headmistress' father's house on Yarm Road. She shrewdly purchased the rambling mansion of Woodside Hall on the beautiful banks of the
River Tees in The Avenue. The coming of theSecond World War , however, delayed the move as the buildings were requisitioned for use asICI headquarters. Portacabins were dotted around the grounds and an air raid shelter was built. On VE Day the headmistress boldly gave ICI their notice to quit and by September the first girls were entering the lovely old buildings. These were enjoyed by generations of schoolgirls until the merger when sadly they were demolished and the current modern buildings were built. The Queen Victoria High School had a long and illustrious history at its location on Yarm Road in
Stockton-on-Tees . The distinctive brown uniform was well known throughout the region and was only replaced five years ago when the name was also adapted to Teesside Preparatory and High School.
