- George Cottrelle
George R. Cottrelle was an executive with the
Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1930s and 1940s. He helped to finance the building ofMaple Leaf Gardens in Downtown Toronto (on the northwest corner ofCarlton Street and Church Street) in 1931. He won theStanley Cup with the Maple Leafs in 1942. He was a banker by profession and was appointedOil Controller for Canada onJune 29 ,1940 by the wartime government ofMacKenzie King on the recommendation of his Minister of TransportC. D.
