Ajahn Thaniya

Ajahn Thaniya is a Thai Buddhist Siladhara nun and a westerner from New Zealand. Ajahn Thaniya is also a widely recognized teacher and the senior nun at Chithurst Buddhist Monastery, England.

Born in 1960 and raised in King Country region of New Zealand, Ajahn Thaniya moved away for school, where she her interest in mediation and Buddha blossomed. She practiced meditation with a group related to Bodhinyanarama Monastery and is closely affiliated with Luang Por Chah and Thai Forest Tradition. After marrying and studying naturopathy and art, she went to Thailand, where she paid respect to Luang Por Chah and was able to practice and study at one of his monasteries.

In 1990, after a pilgrimage to the holy places in India, Ajahn Thaniya went to England to live in a monastic community. She trains in West Sussex, England, where she guides the nuns' community at Chithurst Buddhist Monastery.
