Ian Hanomansing (or Hanoomansingh) (born 1961) is a television journalist with the
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). He is the co-anchor of "",CBUT 's supper hour newscast. From 2000 to 2007, he was the anchor of the national segment of the defunct newscast "Canada Now ". He has been a reporter with the CBC since 1986, and will be one of the network's main reporters for the2008 Beijing Olympics . Trinidad and Tobago in 1961, then later moved to and grew up inSackville, New Brunswick . He attendedMount Allison University for his undergraduate education, and then studied law atDalhousie Law School . While in university, he was one of the country's most successful debaters and the top speaker at theCanadian National Debating Championship .His broadcast media career began in the summer after his graduation at CKDH in
Amherst, Nova Scotia , followed by work at CKCW inMoncton, NB and at CHNS in nearby Halifax, Nova Scotia. He later worked for CBC bureaus in theMaritimes andToronto, Ontario before moving toVancouver , where he was a network reporter and hosted the now-defunct programs "Pacific Rim Report" and "Foreign Assignment".As a reporter, Hanomansing has covered a number of stories, including the 1989
Exxon Valdez oil spill , the 1992 Liberal convention with Nav Brar, the1992 Los Angeles riots , the1994 Stanley Cup riot , the handover ofHong Kong fromGreat Britain , and fourOlympic Games (Atlanta, USA-1996; Nagano, Japan-1998; Salt Lake City, USA-2002; and Torino, Italy-2006). As an anchor, he led Canada-wide coverage of the2003 North America blackout and most recently, the 2007 shootings at Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec.In addition to his current news anchor duties, Hanomansing co-hosts "Hemispheres", a weekly international documentary program on
