launch_platform=The UUM-44 SUBROC was a two-stage submarine rocket developed by the United States. Development began in 1958. In 1964 the complete technical evaluation was finished. The next year, the Navy received the first rounds. A basic load into a SSN consisted of 4-6 rounds. After launching from a torpedo tube, the solid fuel rocket motor ignited pushing the rocket to the water surface, steered by 4 jet deflectors. A combination of explosive bolts and a thrust reversal deceleration system separated the warhead from the body. The bomb then proceeded to sink to a pre-set depth before detonating.
