A family practice physician, he earned a
Bachelor of Science degree fromAuburn University , and a medical degree from theUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham inBirmingham, Alabama . He received his medical specialty training atEisenhower Army Medical Center ,Fort Gordon , Georgia, and atMadigan Army Medical Center ,Fort Lewis ,Washington . He is also a graduate of the Army'sCommand and General Staff College and theArmy War College . Farmer commanded theNorth Atlantic Regional Medical Command andWalter Reed Army Medical Center from June 2004 to Aug. 25, 2006.
