Classification

"Abbasites" was a member of the family Hammatoceratidae in the order Ammonitida. This genus was described originally by Buckman in 1921. [*cite web

] Some have considered "Abbasites" to be a subgenus of "Erycites".

Phylogeny

The genus "Erycites" is believed to be ancestral to "Abbasites". However, "Abbasites" is believed to have left its own descendants in the ammonite familiy Otoitidae. [cite journal
